Work starts on Salford arts faculty

WORK has started on Salford University’s £55m Gateway Project on the Peel Park campus.
The site, close to Salford Crescent railway station, will primarily house the institution’s school of arts and media.
The 172,000 sq ft development is part of a wave of investments planned to overhaul the university’s property portfolio over the next 20 years.
It is being built on the site of the Ashworth & Wakefield building, which has been demolished, and there will be a new public realm area linking the arts school with the Chapman Building. The Gateway building, together with a faculty at MediaCityUK, replaces the Adelphi Campus near Chapel Street.
Stephen Talboys, director of estates, said: “This is an exciting time for the university as we begin this major investment in our future campus that will continue to attract students locally, nationally and internationally.”
The project is being carried out by BAM Construction and should be completed by early 2016.
