Next and New Look open new premises in Blackburn

FASHION retailers Next and New Look have both increased the size of their premises in The Mall Blackburn.

Next has taken a 9,848 sq ft shop in the £66m redevelopment with womenswear and homeware located on the ground floor and menswear and childrenswear departments on the first floor.

The business – which has opened today – received 200 applications for 20 jobs.

New Look received 700 job applications for 26 vacancies before it opened last Thursday.

The 11,800 sq ft ground-floor New Look store offers womenswear, including an ‘Inspire’ range for sizes 18 to 28, a ‘915’ concessions range for nine to 15 year olds, menswear, footwear, lingerie and accessories.

Loraine Jones, general manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: “We are very excited to see Next and New Look opening their new, larger stores, bolstering the fashion offering to Blackburn shoppers.

“We have a line up of impressive store openings over the coming months, with fashion retailer Peacock’s, a first for the town, opening in late autumn followed by a number of well know high-street names.

“The scheme will be complete in spring of 2011, concluding with the unveiling of Blackburn’s new 68,000 sq ft continental market.”

The first phase of the £66m redevelopment – which opened last month – has seen an increase in retail space to over 600,000 sq ft, creating 20 new shops and parking for 1,300 cars.
