The Hut’s Matt Moulding to help get Lancashire exporting

LANCASHIRE entrepreneur Matt Moulding will be sharing his business growth story at a major event aimed at encouraging businesses to export.
Born in Colne, Mr Moulding founded high-growth online retailer The Hut Group in 2004.
A trained chartered accountant, he cut his teeth in business working for 20-20 Mobile, then part of John Caudwell’s empire, before raising £500,000 by remortaging his house and borrowing from family and friends to launch the Hut.
Now employing 750 people in the region, The Hut Group owns 15 websites selling clothes, gifts, technology, fitness and beauty products. In the first six months of this year the company saw sales grew 30% year-on-year to £77m, and in the full year could hit £190m.
In the first half 37% of group sales came form outside the UK and this is expected to hit 50% next year.
The company is recruiting multi-lingual staff to to help it drive sales and is considering employing overseas-based staff for the first time.
The Let’s Get Exporting breakfast with UK Trade & Investment on November 15 takes place at the Deepdale Stadium, Preston and is free to attend.
