Week Ending: Stanley makes his point at Breakfast; Entrepreneur’s tale of Cheshire scandal; Downtown raises eyebrows

INSOLVENCY practitioner and fanatical Manchester City fan Paul Stanley is never one to hide his sporting allegiances.

So when he was asked to get up at silly o’clock to appear on BBC Breakfast to discuss the administrations of retailer Barretts and video chain Blockbuster, Stanley completed his outfit with an official City tie.

He told Week Ending – that while he is not seeking a transfer window move to the Etihad – he was however delighted to have been re-tweeted by the official @mcfc Twitter account.

“It was better than being on the telly,” he remarked, before voicing his regret that he had not taken the opportunity to mock Manchester United live on national TV.

Perhaps last weekend’s results were to blame, eh Stan?

Kidnapping and satanic sects are not normal topics concerning this website, but these are central themes of Hale-based property entrepreneur Frazer Fearnhead’s debut novel, The Cheshire Sect.

Fearnhead, who when he’s not running investment schemes for houses and hotels, has teamed up with pal Dan Smith to collaborate on the new book, which is apparently set in WAG-land, or Alderley Edge, as it is properly known.

Their central character, Sebastian Bonham is described as “more Sherlock Homes than Jack Reacher” . The Cheshire Sect – by Dan Frazer (cute), is available on sale now.

“THERE’S no success like failure”, so said Bob Dylan, and this quote sprung to mind when a press release arrived trumpeting a Lancashire law firm chief executive’s triumph in the Downtown in Lancashire awards.

Unsurprisingly the PR release made no reference to the firm’s pre-pack insolvency in February.

While Week Ending has no agenda against the firm, Marsden Rawsthorn, or Downtown, we do feel that in the fine county of Lancashire, there was surely a more deserving winner of the Woman of the Year Award?
