UK POS creates jobs with £4.5m investment in new base

FAMILY-owned point of sale products manufacturer UK POS is investing £4.5m in new head office and manufacturing facility in Stockport, a move that will allow it to create more than 20 jobs.

UK POS, which supplies a range of retailers, ranging from supermarkets to independent shops with more than 3,500 items ranging from acrylic price holders to pavement signs, will move to the new facility in February.

The 47,000 sq ft office and factory on Bredbury Park Industrial Estate is right on the M60 and just over 3.5 miles from its current home at The Embankment, Heaton Mersey.

The new location will allow the company to grow its existing work force from 50 to 72 immediately. With sales of around £8m, UK POS is hoping the investment will allow it to grow to beyond £10m.

The Stockport firm was launched 24 years ago by managing director, Jason Leslie, and his father Bill. It manufactures a range of display products such as pavement signs, leaflet holders and sign holders used by a variety of sectors including retail and hospitality.

Managing director Jason Leslie said: “We have seen steady growth over the past five years, despite the recession, and have outgrown our current two sites in Heaton Mersey.

“We have significantly expanded our client base in the UK and overseas during the past two years and international orders now account for 10% of our sales – which we aim to grow even further. We are also striving to increase our online sales from 19% to more than 30% of our total sales over the next 12 months.

“We are recruiting for a number of roles across sales, warehousing and distribution as part of this development and we are looking forward to continuing to grow our business in our home town of Stockport.”
