UKFast heads to Scotland

MANCHESTER data centre firm UKFast has chosen Glasgow for its second office.

The company said it went to Scotland ahead of London because of a focus in the country on its “digital future”.

Scotland has opened a new internet exchange which is expected to increase connectivity.

Chief executive Lawrence Jones said: “People have questioned such a move with the referendum less than a year away but, whether Scotland becomes independent or not, it will always be a huge part of global and British business. This is why we have chosen to expand North before even considering going South to London – we’re moving up!”

He added: “As Scotland focuses more on its digital future and future-proofing its infrastructure, there is a clear gap in the market for us to help businesses in the country to grow. We want to join the market in Scotland to provide our enterprise-grade solutions for all levels of business.”

The office has five staff and more recruits are planned. UKFast is based in Hulme and has sales of around £20m and 200 staff.
