Supercar firm launches Liverpool HQ

THE Briggs Automotive Company, the business behind the Bac Mono single-seater supercar, has formally opened its new Liverpool factory where it plans to create 60 jobs.

The firm, founded by brothers Neill and Ian Briggs, has agreed a deal with the city council to move from Holmes Chapel Business Park in Cheshire to Speke Hall Industrial Estate, south Liverpool. It hopes to be making 100 cars a year by 2015.

It has been lured by an undisclosed sum from the city’s £75m Regional Growth Fund-backed Mayoral Investment Fund which is being used to create jobs.

The council says the move will reinforce the city’s reputation for car marking, already prominent thanks to the presence of Jaguar Land Rover at Halewood, and it plans to use the sports car at events around the world. The vehicle will also carry the city’s branding at race meetings.

Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said: “We’ve worked hard for over a year, through my Mayoral Investment Fund, to bring BAC to Liverpool, and I’m absolutely delighted that it’s now all systems go for their first-class manufacturing facility. I can’t wait for production of the Mono to officially get underway.

“This deal will create new jobs, new apprenticeships and new supply chain opportunities. It’s great news for our city and is another example of how I am delivering on my Mayoral pledge to make Liverpool the preferred choice for investment and jobs.

Neill Briggs, co-founder and technical director of BAC, said: “Everyone at BAC is thrilled and full of pride about our move to Liverpool – the new home of the Mono supercar. This fantastic facility – allied with the recruitment of highly skilled individuals – will allow us to meet sales demand from across the globe.

“We would like to thank Mayor Anderson and his team for all their support in facilitating this move, which would otherwise not have been possible, and look forward to building on this region’s reputation as an area of automotive excellence.”

The Bac Mono was featured on the BBC’s popular Top Gear show this year, and its professional driver The Stig achieved the second-fastest time on its racing track driving the car.
