Sweet honours success for Tse sisters

THE sisters behind the Sweet Mandarin Chinese restaurant and sauces business have been made MBEs in the New Year’s Honours list.
They are are among a number of North West business figures who have been recognised for their work across a range of sectors, including manufacturing, property, and hospitality.
Helen and Lisa Tse have been awarded MBEs for services to the food and drink sector. They began with a Manchester restaurant and have since branched out, launching a range of sauces with backing from Dragons’ Den investors Duncan Bannatyne and Hilary Devey. Four weeks ago they struck a £6m deal to sell the sauces to the Chinese market.
Mark Crabtree, managing director of Burnley-based AMS Neve, which designs sound consoles for leading film studios, has been made an OBE for services to advanced manufacturing and the creative industries.
Carol Holden, the chief executive of the Liverpool-based Northwest Automotive Alliance, also received an OBE, along with Andrea Hough, the managing director of Worsley-based AT Engine Control, which makes engine controls for helicopters.
Sarah Dunning, chief executive of Westmorland, which runs Tebay services on the M6 in Cumbria, was made an OBE for services to the food, drink and hospitality sectors. Peter Emerson, chairman of Wilmslow property business the Emerson Group has also received an OBE for services to business in the North West.
Also from the property world, Christopher Seddon, a director of Holmes Chapel-based construction business Seddon Group, has been made an MBE for services to apprenticeships and the community in the North West through the Seddon Charitable Trust.
Basil Newby, who opened Blackpool’s first gay nightclub and went on to launch the Funny Girls burlesque show, was awarded an MBE for services to business and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Blackpool.
