Enterprising accountants spread their wings

ENTREPRENEURIAL accountants Giles Mattocks and Dave Grindley have launched their own firm, aiming to give bigger rivals a run for their money.
The duo, who met while working at Chadwick in Liverpool, which was acquired by Mazars last year, launched St Helens-based Mattocks Grindley on July 1.
Specialising in providing high-level tax and accounting advice to entrepreneurs, professionals and business people, the pair aim to identify clients with whom they can grow.
Tax specialist Mr Grindley, 35, told TheBusinessDesk.com:”A lot more people are taking the plunge and setting up businesses and new ventures and we wanted to do the same.
“Our target are entrepreneurs, people with a portfolio of interests, maybe someone with a core business who has diversified and had a small property portfolio and needs tax advice.”
Mr Mattocks, 34. added: “We really feel there’s a new generation of business people coming through – there’s a lot of businesses changing hands in this manner and I think it’s important that business owners have advisers who are similar, so they can grow together. We think now is a good time to be launching and building our client base.
“We’re confident there’s is a market for high level business advice at a competitive price, we don’t want to be once a year accountants, but involved in a hands-on manner with our clients.”
The pair, who both live in Rainhill near St Helens and have young families, say they have been pleased and surprised with the response to their new venture.
“It’s an exciting time. Since we launched we have been developing our contacts, meeting people and getting around the region,” Mr Grindley added.
