All change at Thos Storey

MANCHESTER-based steel fabrication Thos Storey has shaken up its board as it gears up for future growth.
The firm, which makes parts for JCB, Caterpillar and Terex, is keen to diversify away from the construction market – which accounts for 60% of revenue – to higher margin sectors such as agriculture.
Last year it secured the licence for the UK and parts of Europe to make and distribute Spread-a-Bale, a trailer that spreads hay bales.
Co-owner and operations director John Huggins has become managing director, while his fellow shareholder Fred Ellis, has moved from MD to chairman. Human resources manager Jo Lynch has been promoted to commercial director, while financial controller Mike Walton has been appointed finance director – a role previously covered by Mr Ellis. General manager Tony Ramsdale takes over as operations director.
Mr Huggins said: “We are a distinguished business with a long history operating in a fast changing environment. We are delighted with the new structure which will enable us to implement ambitious development plans for the future.
The company was advised by consultant David Houghton of Bridge Houghton: “Thos Storey is a fascinating business with exciting potential for significant growth. We were delighted to work with the management to help formulate an effective strategy which means the company is now in a strong position to grow rapidly. Turnover over the next three years is expected to grow with between 30 and 50 new jobs created.”
The £10m turnover firm operates from 100,000 sq ft premises in east Manchester and employs 140 staff.
