Plan to revitalise Georgian terraces in Liverpool

PLANS to give a new lease of life to 23 Georgian terraced houses in Liverpool have been submitted to Liverpool City Council.

The homes, in Falkner Street and Catharine Street, have houses students in recent year but Hollinwood Homes, part of the Preston-based Marcus Worthington Group, wants to turn them back into privately-owned homes.

Most of the work will involve internal alterations to restore the townhouses.

The scheme is part of £50m investment being made by Marcus Worthington Group and the University of Liverpool that also includes the 354-bed Philharmonic Court student complex, just off Catharine Street and 267 student beds in four blocks at Great Newton Street.

Mark Chadwick, residential development director of Hollinwood Homes, said: “We’ve completed extensive research into the types of properties that would meet the local housing needs in this area and have discovered that the best use would be to restore them back into townhouses.

“This area is hugely popular and by bringing these homes back into use, we are not only helping to regenerate this part of Liverpool, we are providing some much needed, high quality homes that are modern and desirable on the inside, but retain their distinctive characteristics on the outside.”

The Georgian terraces are due to be completed in 2016. Philharmonic Court is scheduled to be completed in mid 2015, while Great Newton Street is to be finished in September.
