Controversial Foxdenton plan approved

PLANS for a controversial £100m mixed-used scheme on green space in Oldham have been approved.

Foxdenton LLP – a joint venture owned by Bolton-based Seddon and Oldham-based Grasscroft Property Company – wants to build a 700,000 sq ft business park and 500 homes on the 120-acre site around Foxdenton Lane at Chadderton.

The proposals have been contested by nearby residents who argue brownfield sites should be redeveloped first, but the council and the developer say the scheme will deliver a major boost to the local economy, bringing more than 1,500 jobs.

The plans include logistics, industrial and office space, together with family homes and more than 20 acres of open space.

Jamie Seddon from Seddon Developmens said: “We have been working closely with all our advisers for a long time to ensure this development meets all expectations and ambitions for the area. This announcement enables us to progress with the scheme and ensure this major regeneration programme becomes a reality.”

According to the Oldham Chronicle Eric Parr, a member of the Foxdenton and District Protection Group, said: “I am astonished at the decision and think it is pathetic. The committee has displayed a lack of knowledge and research that has been done before making a decision.”

Foxdenton LLP has also won consent for a new link road through the site which will help reduce traffic on Foxdenton Lane. The developer was advised by Manchester-based HOW Planning.

The team involved with the scheme includes masterplanner 5Plus, transport consultant Curtins Consulting and environmental engineer Wardell Armstrong.
