Worker dies at Matalan building site

THE Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating the death of a worker on the building site of Matalan’s new headquarters in Merseyside.

The man died in an incident on February 7 at the former Petrolite site at Knowsley Industrial Park where the retailer is building a 130,000 sq ft office.

In a statement Merseyside Police said he was taken to hospital but could not be revived.

The scheme is being handled by Cheadle Hulme developer Maro Developments and built by Morgan Sindall. The man who died is believed to have been working for a sub-contractor.

A Morgan Sindall spokeswoman said: “The thoughts of Morgan Sindall and all at the site are with the family and colleagues of the deceased at this time. Morgan Sindall is cooperating fully with the emergency services, the police and the Health and Safety Executive. Given the circumstances, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”
