AROUND 9,500 sq ft has been taken at The Observatory in Manchester's Cross Street by existing occupiers.

AROUND 9,500 sq ft has been taken at The Observatory in Manchester’s Cross Street by existing occupiers.

Nationwide has expanded from 2,673 sq ft to 7,008 sq ft in the 55,000 sq ft building, while Ward Hadaway Solicitors has taken an additional 2,422 sq ft, taking its total space to 6,918 sq ft.

The deals follow a refurbishment of the second, fourth and fifth floors and the appointment of GVA and Savills as joint letting agents.

The building is owned by higher education pension fund the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS).

Fund manager Alex Turner said: “The Observatory provides occupiers with high quality office accommodation in the heart of Manchester’s central business district. That Nationwide and Ward Hadaway Solicitors chose to expand within the building rather than relocate is testament to this and demonstrates an upturn in demand for office space in the city.”

Around 22,000 sq ft is vacant at the building.
