DLA Piper advises as Samworth Bros swallows Soreen

SOREEN, the popular Manchester-based malt loaf brand, has been sold by McCambridge Group to Samworth Brothers, owners of pastie brand Ginsters.
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, includes the Soreen bakery site at Trafford Park.
Law firm DLA Piper advised McCambridge on the sale to Samworth Brothers subsidiary Gibbs Croft.
Founded in 1939, and most well-known for its Malt Loaf range, Soreen’s product range has expanded in recent years to include new flavours, alongside other ‘food to go’ breakfast products.
Employing 125 people it was owned by Warburtons until 2003 when it was acquired by the now defunct Inter Link Foods. McCambridge acquired it in 2007.
Samworth Brothers is a family-owned 114 year old Leicestershire-based manufacturer of own-label and branded chilled food products ranging from ready meals and savoury pasties to sandwiches and desserts.
The DLA Piper corporate team was led by partner Tim Lake with assistance from associate Nicky Randle.
Catalyst Corporate Finance also advised McCambridge Group and Soreen.
