Shred-it buys Welsh competitor

DOCUMENT destruction firm Shred-it, which has its UK headquarters in Manchester, has bought one of its Welsh competitors for an undisclosed sum.

The company – which has a 10,000 sq ft facility in Trafford Park and opened its head office in Sale last year – has purchased South Wales Shredding (SWS).

Cardiff-based SWS provides secure on site and off site collection and disposal of confidential waste and serves the whole of the South Wales and South West of England region.

The company’s core service is very similar to that delivered by Shred-it which is one of the main reasons for the purchase.

The acquisition brings the number of Shred-it locations in Wales to two and takes its total number of UK depots to 17.

The move follows the opening of Shred-it’s first branch in Wales in Bridgend in January 2010, responding to a strong demand from Welsh businesses for secure document destruction services.

The new acquisition is anticipated to provide additional resources to expand the business further. There will be no job losses as a result of the acquisition.

Robert Guice, executive vice president of Shred-it, said that the company will now make additional resources available to expand the business.

He said: “We are very pleased to have made this key acquisition in Cardiff – it will allow us to enhance the services we can provide to our existing customers based in and around the Capital.

“It will give us immediate and additional resource to expand beyond our location in Bridgend and take on more customers in South Wales.

“We are committed to continuity of service for all our customers and look forward to working with our new customers to meet their document destruction needs.”

Peter Driscoll, director of SWS, said: “We are very pleased to be joining forces with Shred-it as a fast expanding provider of document destruction in Wales and the UK’s market leader.

“We believe that our customers will benefit from the expertise and enhanced services Shred-it will provide. We are looking forward to being part of such a successful company.”
