Moorgarth unveils Bolton leisure and retail plan

THE new owner of Bolton’s Market Place Shopping Centre has submitted plans to turn 25,000 sq ft of unused Victorian vaults into space for restaurants, bars and shops.
Landlord Moorgarth bought the centre for around £20m from the administrators of previous owner Agora last year.
It has already signed up cinema operator The Light to run a nine-screen cinema at the scheme.
Moorgarth chief executive Tim Vaughan said: “The submission of this planning application is a confirmation of our confidence and in Bolton. The addition of family-friendly restaurants, licensed bars and of course, our recently approved nine-screen independently operated cinema in this beautiful building is a fresh and exciting way to create an event based destination that will operate during the day and night offering people of all ages a place to enjoy some quality time with friends and family in a wonderful environment.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the Bolton community and help breath life back into these historic vaults and enable the population of Bolton and outside to appreciate the delights of Bolton’s iconic heritage into the future.”
The proposed works include an escalator from the ground floor main entrance on Corporation Street, glass lifts to all floors and further restaurant space on the first floor.
