Go-ahead for Chester Roomzzz aparthotel

PLANNERS in Chester have approved a new four-star 64-bed Roomzzz Aparthotel in the city.

Roomzzz wants to convert the former DVLA offices on Nuns Road.

The group already operates five aparthotels in Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle. It is also opening in Liverpool and London.

Head of construction and development Paul Manku said: “Chester is bursting with history and is one of the top tourist destinations in England, making it the perfect location for our new aparthotel. We operate in the same way as a hotel, but with greater in-room living and kitchen amenities provide guests with a much more private and flexible staying experience.”

Planning consultancy Turley provided planning and specialist heritage advice because the building is located in a conservation area, adjacent to the city’s historic walls and a number of listed buildings.

Anna Noble, a planner in Turley’s Manchester office, said: “This was a complex application with Roomzzz Aparthotel wanting to add an additional storey to the building. We worked closely with the council’s conservation team to ensure a successful design and English Heritage supported the proposals.”
