THE NUMBER of deals completed in the North West fell 36% in the third quarter to 141 compared with the previous quarter.

However, the total value of those transactions was £3.6bn – an increase of 77% from £2bn, partly boosted by Co-operative Group’s £1.57bn acquisition of Somerfield. There were seven deals valued at more than £100m in total.

Sixteen transactions, worth £457.1m, were completed in the mid-market (£10m-£100m), down more than 50% on the previous quarter.

Deals under £10m had a total value of £66.5m and accounted for 27 transactions, down from 51 worth £165.1m.

Financial information company Corpfin said KPMG was the most active accountancy adviser in the region, followed by Deloitte. Halliwells was the top legal adviser with six transactions, followed by DLA Piper and Addleshaw Goddard.
