Plans in for Airport City hotel

THE first planning application has been submitted for Airport City North – a 350-bed Hilton Garden Inn hotel.
Manchester Airports Group (MAG) is seeking permission for the three to four star hotel on a surface car park known as plot 107 between the M56 spur and the bus apron.
Last year MAG agreed a joint venture with the Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG) to deliver the £800m Airport City scheme.
It will consist of two sections – a world logistics hub to the south of the airport and a business district to the north that will have 1.2 million sq ft of offices, 530,000 sq ft of manufacturing space and 1,300 hotel beds on a 65-acre site. The 15-year project is expected to create 16,000 jobs.
In a planning statement MAG said: “The proposed hotel is the first detailed proposal to come forward for Airport City North. As such, the hotel must be able to exist on its own in the early phases and also be adaptable to the emerging proposals on adjacent sites.
“As a result, the application proposal provides for a hotel to have sufficient parking, adequate access and urban realm for a stand-alone development within the application site.”
MAG added: “This hotel development will help support the anticipated growth of the airport to 45 million passengers by 2030 and the series of new developments associated with Airport City.”
