Resi plan for Dale Street block

THE rejuvenation of Liverpool’s Dale Street continues with a plan to turn a listed empty office building into 34 apartments.

Citrus House, at 40-46 Dale Street, has been empty for the past 10 months, according to the council, and now a developer wants to reinstate the ground floor retail units and convert the offices to one, two and three-bed apartments.

The application comes at a time of renewed interest in Dale Street which has a large number of empty buildings despite being the home of the city council.

The conversion of the Royal Insurance Building into a hotel is progressing, as well as the Leyla Hotel in the former Municipal Annexe. A developer called Jamworks is working on a conversion of a derelict Georgian terrace and also has plans to convert the Bridewell into student accommodation.

The plan for Citrus House has been put forward by Kirkby Lonsdale-based Day Architectural. The identity of the developer was not disclosed in the planning documents.

It is set for approval when the planning committee meets on April 8. A report prepared by council officers said: “The residential accommodation development will facilitate the reuse of this attractive, vacant building. The proposal respects the historic character, fabric and setting of this Grade II listed building and ensures its long term survival, preserving and enhancing the character and appearance of the Castle Street Conservation Area and the World Heritage Site.”
