Pochin in swing with Mere contract

POCHIN Construction has won a £15m contract to refurbish and extend Mere Golf & Country Club in Cheshire.

The Cheshire-based firm will carry out the work in two phases, which will see the popular facility transformed into a new five star hotel and spa.

The first phase will be the leisure facility, which includes a luxury swimming pool and new reception area, is scheduled to be completed by late December.

The second phase comprises the construction of an extension to house 81 luxury bedrooms. This includes the demolition of the old leisure area and will involve the refurbishment of a large portion of the existing building. It should be completed by February 2012.

Mere Golf Club owner Mark Boler said: “This is an exciting phase in Mere’s history and I am delighted to be working with Pochin to create what we hope will become the North West’s number one golf and leisure destination resort.
“Once complete the club will be re-launched as The Mere Golf Resort and Spa.”

Antony Pochin, business strategy director at Pochin Construction, commented:
“Mere Golf & Country Club is ever popular with golf enthusiasts across Cheshire and has built a reputation for being one of the most prestigious leisure developments in the region.

“This investment will elevate the club to a new level, and in turn, offer facilities that were not previously available to members.

“As a business, we are winning an increasing number of contracts in the leisure sector. It is fantastic to be so heavily involved in transforming such a well-loved facility in our home region of Cheshire.”
