Supermarket group to create 200 jobs in Cheshire

SUPERMARKET group Morrisons is to expand its food processing plant near Winsford, Cheshire, a move that will create around 200 jobs.

The Yorkshire-based group, which is the only major chain to have its own food processing operations, took over the site employing around 380 people at Wharton Bridge from Vion Foods in 2012.

It now plans to expand the volume of products produced at the site, which
processes the retailer’s large range of meat products.  The jobs on offer will cover a number of different positions, from production to managerial and engineering.

Mark Harrison, group manufacturing director for Morrisons, said: “We are delighted at the success of the Winsford site over the last two years which has now given us the chance to expand and offer lots of new opportunities to join Morrisons.

“Our manufacturing sites are hugely important to the business and we are continuing to invest in them.”

Eddisbury MP, Stephen O’Brien, said: “The success of Morrisons in Winsford, and the creation of all these new jobs, is down to good management and the hard work, skills and training of the people of Winsford. I offer my congratulations to them on this good news.”
