Warrington to push for another Mersey crossing

WARRINGTON Council leader Terry O’Neill has reiterated the authority’s commitment to at least one more Mersey crossing in the town to relieve congestion.
Speaking at Warrington’s annual property review yesterday he said there could be a crossing from Chester Road that would eventually link up with Sankey Way.
The proposal was first included in last year’s Warrington Means Business document which set out a number of ambitions including a major regeneration of the town’s waterfront area.
Mr O’Neill said: “As part of the Atlantic Gateway proposal there’s Port Warrington on Chester Road. There could be a crossing there coming out on Sankey Way. It would also open up a large portion of landlocked land which would be beneficial for our long term plans.
“I’m pretty confident we’ll be delivering our long term plans within the next 10 years and a lot of that will help us deal with congestion.”
Atlantic Gateway is a project being led by the Manchester-based Peel Group that involves a ribbon of development along the Manchester Ship Canal.
