Herbal remedies firm sold

ANGLESEY-based herbal remedies business Allens & Co (Anglesey) has sold its core Allens brand to Huddersfield pharmaceutical firm Thornton & Ross.

Thornton & Ross is an independent supplier of household and medicine brands, including Zoflora disinfectant and Covonia cough medicine.

It has bought the Allens brand portfolio, which includes Allens Pine & Honey Balsam, Allens Original Cough Lozenge, Allens Menthol & Blackcurrant Cough Lozenge and Allens Extra Strong Cough Lozenge, from the Griffiths family.

The firm said that the deal, which includes all stock, trademarks and intellectual property, would enhance its presence in the cough medicines market.

Thornton & Ross was advised by Manchester-based law firm Kuits.

“We have advised Thornton & Ross on numerous acquisitions and are pleased to have concluded the purchase of the Allens brand, which complements Thornton & Ross’ existing brand portfolio,” said Kuits’ intellectual property partner Colin Hoffman.
