Ex-Liverpool Vision chief to advise city council

THE FORMER chief executive of Liverpool Vision Jim Gill has joined Liverpool Council on a part-time basis to help support the city council’s economic development and regeneration plans.
The council said that Mr Gill, who was due to retire, will take up a two-day post working alongside council leader Joe Anderson and chief executive David McElhinney on strategic projects for the next three months, including its proposals for a city region-wide Local Economic Partnership.
He will also advise on economic and regeneration policy and on applications to the Jessica EU fund set up to finance urban renewal projects.
“Liverpool is going through an important time with regeneration and we are facing tough economic conditions which means we need the very best people to help keep up the momentum.” said Mr Anderson.
“Jim’s guidance and advice will be important and extremely valued as we start the restructure of the council’s senior management team.
“His role will be to give us guidance and support on more strategic and long-term policy, to complement the day-to-day management role being carried out by the interim director of regeneration, Nick Kavanagh.
Mr Anderson said he was “very grateful to Jim for putting his retirement on hold for the next few months to help us out”.
Jim Gill said: “I said when I retired from Liverpool Vision that I had developed a strong attachment and commitment to Liverpool.
“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to continue my relationship with the city and to contribute what I can to its future success.”
The council said that Mr Gill’s was the latest of a series of interim appointments made ahead of a major restructuring of the city council.
Knowsley’s executive director of regeneration, economy and skills, Nick Kavanagh, is working for Liverpool three days a week in a unique sharing arrangement.
And John McHale – who was previously director of housing at Knowsley Council and went on to become chief executive of Knowsley Housing Trust – has been appointed interim director of housing and neighbourhoods.
