Trendsetter beds downs with Delbanco

FAMILY-owned bedding company Trendsetter Home Furnishings has made a strategic acquisition – the first in its history.
The Manchester company has bought the filled bedding business of London-based competitor Delbanco Meyer & Company and its associated consumer brands, and will now supply the likes of Harrods, Amazon and Feather & Black for the first time.
Claire Watkin, managing director of Trendsetter, which has annual sales of £16.3m, said: “The acquisition is part of Trendsetter’s continued growth, ongoing success and objective to be retailers’ preferred supplier of bedding products both here in the UK and internationally.
“We have looked at acquisitions before, but this is the first one, and it is very exciting as it will add significant growth to our business.”
She said Delbanco’s operations would be integrated into Trendsetter in the coming months and the deal would also boost he company’s customer numbers.
Mrs Watkin added: “Adding the Delbanco business not only enhances Trendsetter Home Furnishings’ existing sourcing operations and supply chain, but also enables the business to further expand our existing portfolio of brands and products to provide even more choice to our valued customers.
“From a trading perspective, it’s postive at the moment, it’s busy at the moment and we are seeing considerable pick up with key retailers.”
Based on Trafford Park Trendsetter was founded more than 100 years ago and is now in the hands of the fourth generation of the Black family.
It manufactures and distributes a broad range of premium own label and branded duvets, pillows and related bedding products to a diverse range of global customers including John Lewis. It also has its own brand, The Fine Bedding Company.
Delbanco Meyer will continue to run its bed linen business. The company was founded in 1936 and became the largest bristle merchant in the world. It moved into household textiles In the 1980s.
