Easyjet cuts H1 losses

BUDGET airline easyJet has beaten forecasts by narrowing first half losses.

The carrier, which flies from Liverpool and Manchester, said it was on track to continue to deliver sustainable growth and returns for shareholders.

The group recorded a pre-tax loss of £53m in the six months to March 31, down 13% on last year. This was ahead of its own guidance which was for a loss of between £55m and £65m.

Easyjet traditionally runs at a loss during its winter first half when fewer customers fly. It achieved this year’s stronger performance despite not benefiting from the Easter break which fell in April.

The airline has put the improvement down to tight cost control, the popularity of its allocated seating programme and fewer weather disruptions.
