£150k for medical start-up MeoMed

MEOMED, a medical start-up based at Manchester Science Park, has secured £150,000 from an NHS fund to roll out new technology to help monitor heart patients.
It will use the cash to test and evaluate its Medical Efficiencies Online (MEO) product at primary care centres.
MEO is a secure IT portal which allows GPs to log patient data that can then be analysed by hospital consultants. MeoMed says it is the only system of its kind for cardiologists who specialise in heart rhythm disorders.
The company is based at the MedTECH centre at the science park, a joint venture between the NHS and the private sector to help develop medical technologies. The funding has come from the NHS England Regional Innovation Fund.
MeoMed director Dr Neil Hobson said: “We are an ambitious company, and our aim with MEO is to help improve efficiencies in the NHS, and ultimately to enhance patient care.
“This funding is a huge boost for us, and our presence in the MedTech Centre Incubator has certainly helped stimulate the growth of our company; its specialist expertise and innovative environment has provided invaluable support.
“It has helped us identify different funding sources and schemes, and our latest funding success from NHS England will help shape the future of MEO.”
Dr Paul Hanmer, managing director of the MedTECH Centre, said: “Manchester has a wealth of innovators with some outstanding ideas, and the MedTECH Centre is the best place to help these companies grow. We have experienced rapid growth since our launch just four years ago attracting both individual innovators and more established companies.
“We provide a creative space for companies to start their journey into the healthcare arena, and help companies just like MEO flourish. MEO is a world-class solution, and its latest funding success highlights its potential in the sector.”
