STOCKPORT’S TOM Blackshaw Roofing has been acquired by a family firm based in Hull.

Burton Roofing Merchants, which supplies roofing materials, said the deal would give it a foothold in Greater Manchester. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Managing director Peter Burton said: “The acquisition is a strategic move – Tom Blackshaw Roofing is a well-established business with a strong client base – and both parties could see the potential of bringing it under the Burton brand.”

Burton Roofing has nine depots in England and Scotland with a £35m turnover. In 2008, CUPA of Spain took a majority stake in the business.

Peter Burton and Tom Blackshaw worked together in the roofing trade before starting their own businesses in the 1980s. Since the retirement of Tom Blackshaw, the business, based in Conway Street, has been managed by his son Nick Blackshaw who will stay with the business as a manager.
