Daisy leads North West in Fast 50

FIVE North West businesses have made it into Deloitte’s 2008 Technology Fast 50, with Nelson-based Daisy Communications leading the pack.

Business telecoms company Daisy Communications was the top company in the North West, ranking 18th overall.

Matthew Riley, chief executive of Daisy Communications, said: “It’s been an amazingly busy year for us. We’ve made a string of acquisitions that have boosted revenue to £55m and EBITDA to £10m, which is a massive jump.

“Growth is otherwise organic, but it’s in double digits and sales in the last five months have doubled month on month.”

The company, which employs more than 180 people, has acquired six businesses in the last 12 months.  And another three acquisitions are in the pipeline, according to Mr Riley.

“There is cash out there, but it’s just not as easy as it once was to obtain. However, we’re very strong financially, so will certainly be hunting for some bargains next year,” he said.

Other North West companies that ranked in the Deloitte Fast 50 are Manchester’s UKFast (28th), Switch Media plc of Liverpool (41st), Rawtenstall-based 2ergo (43rd) and Wigan’s Valueworks (46th).

Jodi Birkett, technology media and telecoms partner for Deloitte in the North West, said software and internet businesses make up the bulk of the fastest growing companies.

“While their products and services are at the extreme cutting edge of global technology, it is important to note that it is not just technology that makes these companies leaders in their sectors – it is about the quality of the people and their Intellectual Property.”
