Urban Splash gains HCA funding for New Islington site

URBAN Splash is to begin work on another new project at its New Islington project in the Ancoats area of Manchester  after receiving funding from the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA).

The Manchester-based developer is to build a 17-home scheme known as The Guts, which refers to its central position at the middle of New Islington on the site of the former Cardroom Estate, after receiving a grant of £936,000 from HCA.

The scheme has been designed by architects mae and will include a mix of terraces and ‘back to back’ semi-detached houses. The design includes a constant colour of brick around the bottom of the homes but uses a series of different colours higher up .

It is being developed alongside Great Places Housing Association and regeneration agency New East Manchester and is the eighth scheme to be developed at New Islington thus far.

Richard Hattan of Urban Splash, who is overseeing the entire New Islington scheme, said: “The ultimate objective in developing New Islington is to create a real mixed-use community, with mixed tenure and a mix of homes. This scheme will help our collaborative quest to achieve this.”
