Maghull wins extension for Josephine Butler site

MAGHULL Developments has been given a three-year planning extension to its £100m scheme in Liverpool’s Hope Street.
Liverpool City Council’s planning committee approved the extension for the scheme on the site of the 19th century hospital, Josephine Butler House.
Work started at the site in 2008 but ground to a halt when the recession hit the property sector.
At the time Maghull was criticised for demolishing the historic Josephine Butler building, opposite the Philharmonic pub.
The plans for the site, on the junction of Hope Street and Myrtle Street, include a six-storey office building with shops, restaurants and an underground car park.
Maghull’s plans drew fresh criticism at yesterday’s meeting but the majority of councillors opted to vote in favour of a renewal.
The firm was also given an extension on plans to build flats in nearby Blackburne Place and in Hope Street.
