Spa investment boosts Crow Wood Leisure

LANCASHIRE hotel and spa operator Crow Wood Leisure has reported strong financial results as its £4.5m investment in itsWoodland Spa started to bear fruit.
The Burnley-based business said sales and staff numbers had both doubled in the year to April 30 to £4.5m and 150.
The increase in sales – the Woodland Spa contributed £1m in its first year – helped move the company to a pre-tax profit of £300,000 in the period, compared with a £27,000 loss the year before. Ebitda was £850,000.
Bosses expect sales to top £5m as more people are expected to visit the spa which includes one of Europe’s largest hydro therapy pools, a unique serenity pool and a heated outdoor pool and hot tubs.
Other highlights included a 158% increase in food and beverage revenues from the venue’s two restaurants and four bars.Crow Wood’s 5-a-side football centre Soccer Burnley, now in its third year of operation, also saw a 25% jump in sales and is set to be expanded in August.
Andrew Brown, managing director of Crow Wood Leisure, said: “We’re very proud of what we have achieved over the last 18 months. It’s been very tough at points, but the progress we’ve made is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our wonderful team.
“We’ve doubled our work force to 150 people in a tough economic climate and we’re continuing to invest this year with a capital spend of over £500,000. This will see a garden terrace extension to The Woodland Spa and the addition of further on-site accommodation and a whole range of upgrades to our health & fitness club facilities.”
