Shortlist revealed for Chamber Building of the Year

THE £50m restoration project of Manchester’s iconic Central Library is one of four diverse projects in the running for Greater Manchester Chamber’s Building of the Year award.

The library revamp has been shortlisted alongside Citylabs, the new name for the former Manchester Royal Eye Hospital; Argent’s One St Peter’s Square building and Manchester CIty FC’s new £150m football academy next to the Etihad Stadium.

The projects were selected by the Chamber’s 15-strong property and construction committee,  which, in the final process of judging to find the overall winner, will be undertaking site visits over the next few weeks.

The winning building will be announced at the Chamber’s Property and Construction Annual Dinner at The Hilton Hotel in the city on October 23.

Mike Gibson, chair of the property and construction committee, said: “This competition celebrates the new and innovative buildings that are constructed in our region each year, and showcases the successful collaborations that take place between talented project teams in our industry and their clients.

“Again we invited nominations from everyone in our sector and received many worthy entries from across Greater Manchester. Without doubt, the final four buildings all make a significant contribution to our city region in terms of construction and development and I look forward to the judging process.”
