‘Gateway’ Manchester site on the market

A MAJOR development plot on the edge of Manchester city centre has been put on the market.

The five-acre plot is on the corner of Chester Road and the Mancunian Way and links Castlefield to the new First Street scheme off Whitworth Street West.

The site is being used as a surface car park but also includes the 9,200 sq ft grade II-listed Bridgewater House. A guide price was not available.

It is being marketed as a potential residential development by Colliers International and London-based Cummings Commercial on behalf of a private landowner.

Colliers director Mike Brassington said: “This is a strategic site at the southern gateway to Manchester city centre and beside the residential neighbourhood of Castlefield. As cranes return in numbers to the city skyline we expect a very high level of interest from residential developers.”

The site is part of the former Great Jackson Street Development Framework which is being reviewed by Manchester City Council.
