IP partners launch new firm

TWO former partners at WP Thompson in Liverpool have launched their own firm.
Robin Bartle and David Read have joined forces to set up Bartle Read which is based at Liverpool Science Park and also has an office in London.
The firm advises on intellectual property issues including patent strategy and acquisition, IP disputes and protection for product designs.
The founders have a particular expertise in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, electronic engineering and computing.
Mr Read said: “The work that we do has to be based on a thorough understanding of a client’s technology and its business, which means investing time on client relationships. The aggressive billing culture of some larger legal services firms can make that difficult.
“We have already developed a significant client base including businesses across a range of sectors and are also working with venture capital provider Spark Impact to provide IP advice to some of the businesses within its portfolio.”
Mr Bartle added: “Coming to us clients know that their work is being handled first hand by an attorney that’s been round the block, not passed down the chain to a junior. We’re finding that the reassurance that gives – coupled to the personal touch we’re able to give since we set up the new firm – is going down well with innovative firms both large and small.”
