Kendal engineer to take on 65 staff

KENDAL-based engineer Mardix is expanding its workforce by 17% with the creation of 65 jobs.

The firm, which specialises in switchgear and power technologies, is taking on staff for a variety of technical, engineering and support roles.

The firm was established in 1966 and now has a turnover of £50m and 370 staff.

Director Alexander Bourne said: “Our continued commitment to invest in research and development has positioned the Mardix Group at the forefront of critical power systems innovation. We’re delighted to be able to offer a range of new employment opportunities so more people can join our thriving manufacturing business within the idyllic South Lakes region.”

Meanwhile, car dealership Hadwins, which has 110 staff across three sites in the Lakes, is taking on 10 staff at Lindale, near Grange, in back office, repairs and sales positions.

Lawrence Conway, Chief Executive of South Lakeland District Council, said: “Between them Mardix and Hadwins have nearly 100 years’ experience of trading in South Lakeland and both have enjoyed sustained growth and expansion despite challenging economic conditions in their respective industries.

“The fact they are now both seeking to employ more skilled and hardworking people from across the region is testament to their commercial resilience, high quality products, and commitment to client service.”
