Manchester’s festive markets expand

MANCHESTER’S festive markets, a magnet for more than nine million people in 2013, are being expanded to include the city centre’s busiest shopping destination.
Beginning on November 14, there will be more than 300 stalls trading from nine sites, including for the first time on Market Street and Cathedral Gardens.
Traders from across Europe, from Transylvania and Lapland to Germany, France and Spain will join local businesses from across the North West in wooing visitors with food, drink, gifts, clothes and souvenirs.
Cathedral Gardens will be the new home of a 16 metre windmill, while the Market Street site will be home to 28 stalls selling arts and crafts, along with Christmas gift ideas.
Cllr Pat Karney, Manchester’s Christmas spokesperson, said: “We love how the markets enhance our high streets, giving shoppers a range of options for their Christmas shopping – and when the city centre transformation is complete, the Manchester Christmas Markets will be bigger and better than ever.”
The markets will run until December 21. The Albert Square stalls will be open from 10am until 9pm, while all other locations will be open from 10am until 7.30pm in November and until 8pm in December.
