Property briefs: Your Housing; Homes for Halton; LPC signs up Ordsall tenants

AN 131-apartment scheme in Chester, aimed at people over 55, opens its doors this week.

The £18m Abbot’s Wood development in Northgate Avenue is a partnership between the housing association Your Housing with Cheshire West and Chester Council and the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA).

The one and two-bed apartments will be available for rent, sale or shared ownership.

Your Housing chair Kathy Cowell said: “Abbot’s Wood is a fantastic example of partnership working. This multi-agency approach allows us to work with the local authority to meet the needs of our residents. With so many services under one roof, we can quickly and easily help residents access a range of care as and when they need it.  Ultimately this allows people to remain independent and in their own homes for longer, knowing support is always there.  This can be extremely beneficial for both their mental and physical health.”

The Government agency is the majority landowner at Sandymoor, which in total has the capacity for to 750 new homes. Rugby-based developer Morris is already building 219 houses and another road on another part of the site.

HCA director Deborah McLaughlin said: “This scheme will be fantastic news for Halton, and the new homes will play a vital role in helping the wider region to meet its growth ambitions. It is great to see that we are using public land assets innovatively to deliver homes more quickly, and to enable local authorities to achieve their strategic ambitions.”
