Deansgate Locks tower set to join city skyline

A LUXURY 28-storey apartment block proposed by Property Alliance Group (PAG) at Deansgate Locks is likely to be approved by Manchester City Council next week.

The developer first unveiled the scheme in the summer after reinventing an earlier idea for an 18-storey office block on the plot which is opposite the Hacienda apartments.

Development Securities, its original partner, is still on board for the cantilevered tower with 172 one, two and three-bed apartments. The top floor will have two penthouses and the building will feature a 30m tall advertising screen.

Some nearby residents have opposed the plan due to its scale and a number of Deansgate Locks bar owners have made it clear their premises generate a significant amount of noise.

Planning officers have recommended it is approved. In a document prepared for the city’s planning committee, they said: “The development has sought to minimise potential for issues concerning potential disamenity for future residents from external noise sources and disturbance, and impact on local businesses.”

In August PAG said there had been strong interest from investors and owner occupiers, and a third of the apartments had already been reserved. The building has been designed by 5plus Architects.

The application is being handled by John Cooper of Deloitte Real Estate.
