Mi Julie’s battered by the tax man

HM Revenue & Customs has issued another list of tax dodgers as part of its drive to name and shame.

The list features 23 people, ranging from a builder to a racehorse owner.

But the only name from the North West is Blaine Heapy who runs a chip shop in Oldham inspired by the comic character Ali Gi which is called Mi Julies.

HMRC said Mr Heapy owed £86,500 in unpaid tax and had been fined £48,500.

The list includes “deliberate defaulters”, which means cases where tax of more than £25,000 has not been paid.

Those included have already faced penalties for deliberate errors in their tax returns and deliberately failing to comply with tax obligations.
