Structural steel firm Eiffel looks for a buyer

A NORTH West structural steel firm employing 60 people is looking for a buyer after administrators were appointed following a slump in trading.
Eiffel Steelworks of Ince, Wigan, which has provided structural steelwork for landmark projects including Canary Wharf, the Olympic Stadium and the retail and leisure centre, Liverpool One, is a subsidiary of French group Eiffel Construction Metallique.
Matthew Dunham, partner at the Manchester office of Smith & Williamson, the accountancy and investment management group, has been appointed as joint administrator of the business.
The business was originally established in 1986 as Horwich Steelworks at the Horwich Locomotive Industrial Estate.
Mr Dunham said: “Eiffel Steelworks is a well-respected business which has been adversely impacted by difficult market conditions. It has significant levels of work in the pipeline and a highly skilled workforce.
“We are working in conjunction with all key stakeholders to try and save the business and identify a suitable purchaser in order to sell it as a going concern.”
