Appointments: Four qualify at Stephensons; Douglas Scott hires office heads and more

LAW FIRM Stephensons Solicitors has appointed four new solicitors, each of whom has qualified through the firm’s in-house training programme. 

The new solicitors have all undertaken a two-year training programme at the firm, and now take up their roles as fully qualified solicitors in the Family, Prison Law, Employment and Clinical Negligence departments. 

Rebecca Coutts has qualified as a new family solicitor in Stephensons’ Bolton office, Stuart Crook will begin his career as a prison lawyer in Wigan, while Rachel Lamsley (employment solicitor) and Tom Mooney (clinical negligence) will be based in the Leigh office. 

Stephensons’ chairwoman Ann Harrison added: “We invest a great deal in coaching and mentoring our staff, and many of our trainees progress their careers with Stephensons, going on to become the partners of the future.

“We are extremely proud to be able to appoint our four newly qualified solicitors into positions around the firm. I am sure they will do very well in their respective fields of law and serve our clients well.”

MANCHESTER-based legal recruitment firm Douglas Scott has taken on four new members of staff – two of whome will head the firm’s Yorkshire and West Midlands offices

Experienced recruiter Denise Phoenix joins the firm in a management role with a remit to develop Douglas Scott’s Midlands operations. A Fellow of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals with 15 years of, she will be developing its Birmingham desk recruiting both qualified and non-qualified staff.

Joanne Watkinson joins the firm in a dual role as a mentor and training provider to the business and as manager on the Yorkshire desk, recruiting for qualified and non qualified roles. She has been in the industry for 12 years and is a member of the Fellowship of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals. Watkinson will be supported in the firm’s Leeds-based Yorkshire office by Claire Watt, who has has more than three years’ experience as a legal recruiter.

The firm has also recruited Rebecca Eisermann as a trainee on the Manchester team having recently completed her studies at the College of Law.

Blackburn-based Sportsglobal (UK) has appointed Jerry Carter to the role of business development manager.

The company, which publishes the Football Trade Directory, has said that he will focus on promoting its core online product in London and the South East.Jerry Carter of Sportsglobal (UK)

Carter has spent more than 20 years in the football business having held commercial manager roles at Wilmbledon, Brentford and Gilingham, as well as being commercial director of hois hometown club Colchester United.

Most recently, he had a sales role with a kit supplier and heled to lift the brand’s profile.

“I have known the guys at Sportsglobal personally for many years prior to this,” said Carter.

“Having been one of its first supporters in the early days, I believe the product is a winner.

“I am excited to be part of the company’s expansion and my appointment coincides with the news that Sportsglobal will have a London base from the start of October.”

Commercial director John Booth said:  “Jerry’s experience within UK football, understanding of the market and wealth of contacts made him an ideal choice to help develop the business, mainly in the south.

“The Football Trade Directory website is now one of the leading directories of its kind and is well established within the football sphere.”
