Liverpool to sign off on a musical high in China

LIVERPOOL plans to sign off its presence at the Shanghai World Expo with a celebration of its musical and sporting heritage.
Stars from popular and classical music will join Liverpool children and civic and business leaders to celebrate Liverpool Day on October 16.
Performers from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO), Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) and The Scaffold will perform a gala show before an audience of more than 1,500 guests at the World Expo Performance Hall.
Performers will be joined at the Expo by the Liverpool City Council leader Joe Anderson, as well as senior business figures including representatives of Peel Holdings, the Liverpool Pavilion’s main sponsor.
Liverpool and its public and private sector partners have invested more than £2m in the presence at the World Expo but hope to attract Chinese investment of up to £50m.
Mr Anderson said: “Liverpool Day is set to be the highlight of our activity at the World Expo, when we will showcase the very best of our city’s culture. As a twin city of Shanghai, Liverpool is very proud to have taken part in the Expo, which has allowed us to tell the Chinese public all about what our city has to offer them as tourists, students or businesspeople.”
