Wigan trade counter scheme approved

CRT Property Developments, a subsidiary of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, has secured planning permission for a trade counter development on Manchester Road, close to Wigan town centre.

It is proposing five commercial units ranging from 3,000-4,000 sq ft, with a total floor space of 17,500 sq ft.

Work should start on site in January.

CRT development director Shaun O’Brien said: “We believe that the timing is right in the market for speculative development, particularly as this has slowed so significantly over the past six years. When the recession hit, it was tough for construction and had a disproportionate impact on the coalfields communities.”

Director of economy and skills at Wigan Council, Steve Normington, said: “Working closely with CRT Property Development we know that the impact this could have is positive and most importantly lasting. Encouraging people to consider starting up an enterprise or extending in the local area can only create further good news for our region.”

Commercial agent B8 Real Estate has been appointed to market the scheme.
