MAG submits plans for 260,000 sq ft distribution base

MAG Property has submitted plans with the Birmingham developer Stoford for a 260,000 sq ft logistics unit at Airport City in Manchester.

MAG said Stoford was working on behalf of an international investor to develop an 11-acre plot at Airport City South, the world logistics being built on agricultural land at junction 6 of the M56.

Airport City is an £800m mixed-use scheme that MAG is bringing forward in a joint venture with the Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG).

It will consist of two sections – the world logistics hub to the south of the airport and a business district to the north that will have 1.2 million sq ft of offices, 530,000 sq ft of manufacturing space and 1,300 hotel beds on a 65-acre site. The 15-year project is expected to create 16,000 jobs.

Lynda Shillaw, MAG’s divisional property chief executive, said: “In response to growing market demand for logistics and industrial property we are progressing this development with Stoford by submitting an outline planning permission for the site at Airport City South. We will provide specific details about the development in due course.”
