Sir Michael Lyons joins Redrow

SIR Michael Lyons, who recently chaired a commission looking at how the UK can deliver more homes, has been hired as a non-executive director at housebuilder Redrow.

Sir Michael led the Lyons Housing Commission for the Labour Party which was seeking recommendations on how it could meet a pledge to build 200,000 homes a year by 2020, should it win the general election in May.

Chairman of Ewloe-based Redrow, Steve Morgan, said: “I am delighted to welcome Sir Michael to the board. His extensive knowledge and understanding of the housebuilding sector and large scale sustainable regeneration will be extremely useful for the business, as will his many years of experience in local government, running some of the country’s largest local authorities.”

Sir Michael is also chairman of the English Cities Fund, a partnership between the Homes and Communities Agency, Legal & General and Muse Developments, which focuses on urban regeneration and has a major project in the Chapel Street area of Salford.

He has previously run three local authorities in the Midlands and served a four-year term as chairman of the BBC.
