Media mix: Deloitte’s tech tips and more

SALES of ebooks have slowed and Deloitte is predicting print will represent more than 80% of all book sales worldwide.

The technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) practice at Deloitte said sales of paperback and hardcover books sold three times more than ebooks in 2014.

It also revealed direct revenue from short online video clips was worth more than £3bn globally, while online subscription video will generate about 3% of the £168bn pay-TV market.

TMT partner at Deloitte in the North West, Jodi Birkett, said: “Deloitte predicts ebooks, while popular, are not replacing print. Ebooks sales have not impacted print books in the same way digital has affected sales of CDs, print newspapers and magazines.

“Young people remain as attached to print books, despite their uptake of other digital devices.”

The debut novel of video blogger Zoella, “Girl Online”, with her substantial teenager fan base, sold 20 physical copies for every electronic copy, he said.
