Employers named over Minimum Wage breaches

SIX North West employers are among 37 named and shamed for failing to pay their workers the minimum wage.

Their identities were revealed by business minister Jo Swinson following an HMRC investigation.

The companies range from a Chinese food outlet in Fleetwood to a model agency in Preston.

Collectively, all 37 firms owe workers more than £177,000 and have been charged penalties totalling more than £51,000.

The North West firms are: Chi Yip Group, Middleton (owed £12,904.19 to eight workers); Ms Thap Thi Ly trading as Sweet N Sour, Fleetwood (owed £11,039.14 to two workers);David A Farrer Ltd, Morecambe (owed £2,261 to a worker): Motorists Discount Store Ltd, trading as TMW Autoparts (neglected to pay 2,025.19 to a worker); Mrs Karen Riley, trading as Crave, Preston (owed 1,179 to a worker); Adrian Mackenzie trading as Maverick Models (owed £205.52 to a worker).
The investigation was launched after workers made complaints to the free and confidential Pay and Work Rights Helpline.

The Government has also announced the National Minimum Wage enforcement budget will be increased by a further £3 million in 2015/16 – taking the total to £12.2 million.
